I used to think the Fiesta ST was overrated. Now I realize how much I need a brand new car....
Does anybody with a FiST (99.9% of this side) want to tell me if the hill holder function is standard, and if it works well?

It is standard, and I belive you can turn it off in sync.
If it's anything like the hill hold in my car though Id just leave it off. I hate my hill hold

I don't think any of those systems work anyway. It's not an option, it's standard. The only options are:
Navigation
Sunroof
dark painted wheels (like mine)
Recaros (includes heated seats and side mirrors)

The hill assist on my 3 is standard I think. Not the same as a FiST. Just thought I'd share since I'm here.

Why for do you need hill-hold?

50% this. It is really easy to disable but I think the Fiesta's does a good job of identifying between actual hills and steep drives and just "gentle grades" in the road where you want to coast. If you live in a very hilly area (downtown grand rapids in my case) it works very well. But I imagine if you lived in mostly flat areas it would get more annoying than useful. But it is standard and if you ask, the sync specialist at most ford dealers should show you how to turn it off.

Hill hold works very well for me but I also live in a place with actual hills and inclines. I imagine it is less effective if you're on a road where it isn't *quite* a hill or anything but it confuses the system and you're not sure if it will be there or not.

Yes, exactly. I drive in the city 90% of the time, and on the highway the rest. No real hills ever.

I live in a city where over half the roads are steep hills and we get lake effect snow and ice every year. It helps a LOT when driving manuel.

Hill hold is disabled when you disable traction control, but yeah it comes standard.

I rarely see hills, and when I do it catchs me by surprise and I screw up. It's also hit or miss if it actually activates. I am not a fan, but I see how it could be useful

Most do their job well when on hills but most are also confused by very gentle changes or driveways. I'm not surprised that the system used for subcompacts isn't amazing, though. And it is really infuriating when on a slight incline the system holds you one light but then lets you roll on the next.

That's what I mean though: one light it does it, the next it doesnt. So then I get to the next light and I expect it to not do it but I'm met with unexpected resistance from the brakes and have a jerky start.
When I first got the car it actually made me stall in a busy intersection. I had never felt the system activate and this being my first manual I was still getting adjusted to it. All of a sudden the brakes were holding the car on a slight incline and I didn't give enough throttle to overcome and stalled.

Ooooooohhhh, in the fiesta, if you press the gas down a bit, the system disables immediately. That caught me off guard because I bumped the gas a bit trying to position my feet and my foot was off the brake.

I mean whatever works for you, but I live in rural upstate NY hill country. Plenty of snow and ice every year and my last 3 cars have been manuals, and I've never once longed for hill-hold while starting/stopping on steep grades... I wouldn't let that feature be a make or break part of a car decision personally

I didn't say it was make or break, but it is really nice. And given that this is my first new car ever, it makes it a lot easier to do a hill start and be easy on the clutch. I freely admit I haven't "mastered" the perfect hill start. So in the interest of public safety, and my pride, I learned how to use the hill hold feature and I use it almost daily. Haven't stalled on a hill since I got my Fiesta. Stalled only once or twice in my old jetta but MAN that clutch took a pounding.

Yeah, the Sonics system isn't fast enough. Then again, I haven't had it activate in a long time so I don't remember

About half of my commute is on a fairly constant uphill slope with stop and go traffic.
It's either hill hold or an automatic.

Haha, I used to hate the FiST with a passion. But after some contemplating, it's really got all the features that I want/need while retaining practicality.
It's pretty cheap, Hill hold, 4 doors, Pretty quick, Mods, small size, good gas mileage, and manual. I'd love to keep my A4 as a winter beater though.

Hill holder is standard, can be turned off, and is completely awesome. I like it. It helped me a bit while I was getting used to it. It can be a bit invasive sometimes, but you solve that with more accelerator.

Haha, I know the car is good. If somebody with an SLS Amg buys one, you know what's up.
The hill holder assist is more what I was referring to.

I never really drive on hills #citylife so I can't really help. But the few times I've been on a hill, it's very easy to get off the line. It's a very easy car to drive.

Ah, Gotcha. The clutch is pretty light yes?
My promise to you is that I WILL get a Doge sticker if I find myself with a FiST.

Yes, it's light and the catch point is low and easy to recognize.
You should have a doge sticker regardless.

Those are all good things. Heavy clutches aren't fun for commuting.
Now tell me some bad things.
And my most sincerest apologies for not having a doge sticker.
